“It’s unwise to pay too much, but it’s worse to pay too little. If you pay too much, you lose a little money but if you pay too little, you risk everything by buying something which fails to do the job.”
Ruskin
So how much should you pay?
Budgets depend on two key factors; time needed for shooting and amount of time spent editing.
The old rule was that professional video costs £1000 per screen minute to produce.
Today you can have a completed video for £999 - not per minute but for the entire production.
What is important is that your finished video must match the style and quality of your existing literature and website. Anything less (or more) will create a mismatch which will work against you.
Usually the costly part of the project is in the actual filming of the people and products. This can be in a studio or at your choice of location. That said, if all you require is a short piece to camera for your website, this can be done at surprisingly low cost and can be an excellent method of introducing video to your company with no financial risk.
Complex editing and special effects can add to the look and feel of your video but they will also add to the time taken and hence the cost. Remember: It’s only expensive if it doesn’t work.
